Ex-Corrie actors star in Bridging the Gap

If you're in touching distance of Manchester you might want to make a note and have a look at this. 

From Thursday 24th - Saturday 26th September, there's eight new short plays by a stellar line up of North West writers, featuring the most exciting directing and acting talent in the region.And there's some strong Coronation Street connections too.

Bridging the gap features brand new work by: Jim Cartwright, Chris Hoyle, Charlotte Keatley, Ian Kershaw (Julie Hesmondhalgh's - Hayley Cropper - husband), Sarah McDonald Hughes, Ian Puleston-Davies (Corrie's Owen Armstrong), Punam Ramchurn, Simon Stephens

The casting Director Janet Hampson worked on Coronation Street too.     

Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Corrie's Hayley Cropper, will star in 'Talking Down' by Ian Kershaw, directed by Liz Stephenson.

Matthew Kelly and Karen Henthorn (Corrie's Theresa Morton) will be staring in Jim Cartwright's 'Gap', directed by Anthony Banks.

Loose Women take over Coronation Street from 12.30pm today

ITV's Loose Women will be broadcasting live from the Coronation Street tour from 12.30pm today,  Friday 11 September.

There will be a live studio audience in the Rovers Return at the Coronation Street Tour with Andrea McLean, Jane Moore and Jamelia presenting there whilst Nadia Sawalha will act as a roving reporter from the new Coronation Street set in Media City.

A different female cast member will join the Loose Women panel for each part of the programme and a host of Corrie guests will be speaking to the women throughout the show. With an ‘access all areas’ pass, Nadia will be delving behind the scenes to reveal Corrie secrets too.

Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald) who will be a guest panelist on the show that day - said: "I am looking forward to being part of Loose Women's special show from the cobbles. They are always welcome in Weatherfield and the Rovers will make Loose Women even Looser!"

Preview of tonight's double Corrie - Friday 11 Sep

Friday 11th September
KYLIE STRUGGLES TO KEEP IT TOGETHER Kylie’s perturbed to find messages on her phone from the school saying that Max is ill. But having had no answer from Kylie the school have contacted Callum. Along with his mum, Callum collects a frightened Max in his car. 
CARLA BEGINS TO TURN HER LIFE AROUND Under police interrogation, Tracy sticks to her story that she only confessed to starting the fire in order to prevent Carla from committing suicide. Will the police be able to pin anything on her or will Tracy walk free? Meanwhile Carla returns to Underworld a new woman. Aidan’s taken aback when she plants a kiss on his cheek and thanks him for saving the factory. Alya grovels to Carla and Aidan for her job, assuring them she’s smoothed things over with Macnee’s. Will Carla agree to forgive and forget?
THERE’S A SURPRISE IN STORE FOR ANDREA Liz tells Eileen she’s taking things slowly with Lloyd, but is relishing being with a decent man for a change. When Eileen confirms that Andrea’s moved out of No.11, Lloyd tries to look relieved. But Eileen’s stunned when Andrea later turns up on her doorstep in tears, revealing she’s pregnant with Lloyd’s child!
ELSEWHERE Jason attempts to return to work but Tony declares him unfit and marches him back home. Tony assures Jason they will wreak revenge on Callum once he’s back to full fitness. Can Tim and Anna do anything to persuade the Hodges to bring Miley back home?

Friday 11th September
CALLUM NAMES HIS PRICE The Platts are horrified to realise that Callum has taken Max from school. Back at the flat, a nervous Max refuses to speak to Callum. When Gemma arrives, revealing that a dangerous thug called Denton is after him for money, Callum pales at this grave news. Max nags Callum to take him home. Losing his temper, Callum snaps at him and Max tells Callum he no longer wants him as a dad. Realising he’s finally lost his son, Callum forms a plan. Kylie and David are relieved when Callum brings Max back to No.8. But their relief turns to horror when Callum makes a shocking demand. 
ROBERT AND NICK COME TO BLOWS With only Carla’s word against Tracy’s, Nick guesses that Robert’s covering up the truth, disgusted he punches Robert and fires him from the Bistro. Carla’s annoyed at Nick for hitting Robert, wanting to put the whole sorry business to bed. Can she convince him to re-hire Robert? As Robert’s caught in the firing line will Tracy pay the price for her crime?
ANDREA’S BACK TO EARTH WITH A BUMP Andrea asks Eileen to say nothing of her pregnancy while she decides what to do. But when Michael finds the positive pregnancy test and assumes it’s Eileen’s, Andrea is forced to set him straight. Michael and Eileen urge her to tell Lloyd, will Andrea agree?
ELSEWHERE Anna and family are delighted when Faye gets the lead role in the school play. Jason refuses to rest, vowing to take revenge on Callum by himself. Tony’s alarmed.

Coronation Street Episode Review, Thursday 10th September

 

So this week's big news is, of course, the showdown between Carla and Tracy and the latter's arrest. Whilst I’m glad that Tracy has 'fessed up, the whole point seems moot. Kal went into the burning flat to save Leanne (and Amy) of his own volition; he chose to do that, he was surely aware of the dangers. Maddie bobbed under a police line to get to Sophie to tell her about Jenny Bradley's deceit. To blame Carla or Tracy seems to be an attempt to find a scapegoat for Kal and Maddie's foolhardy actions. Anyway, I reckon the real villain is Sinead who made the candles in the first place - I bet everyone else threw them away after the fire, apart from Sally, who'd already chucked out hers because it didn't match the pouffe.

Then again, Carla has got away with other misdeeds - the corporate manslaughter of Polish seamstress Kasia, and knocking down St Ella of the Backroom whilst driving under the influence. Maybe Carla's tortured, self-destructive guilt over the last few months has included ruminating on these unpunished crimes. Tracy, meanwhile, is not leaving the cast so it looks like she will get away with murder (manslaughter), again. She knows how to play the game, repeating "No witnesses, no evidence" to the police and Robert, looking a little worried and grey under his "Around Midnight" shade of Just For Men, has already started her defence, claiming to Ken that Tracyluv only confessed in order to stop Carla from killing herself. "Tracey's not a monster," he says, almost believing it.

Weatherfield's police are negligent, but the social services department are not fit for purpose. Shouldn't they have overseen the Hodges' adoption of Miley? Faye talks about Miley living in Canada as if she's discussing a distant cousin. She is more interested in what Mrs Reynolds will say if she's late back to school, and being rude about Canada's national dish with Craig.

There is an episode theme of people doing things for alternative reasons. Faye wants "what's best" for Miley, but really it seems to come as a relief that she can now get on with her life. Nick seems to have phoned the police so that justice can be done, but in actuality, he wants everyone to know that Carla is innocent, so that she will return to normal and he will get his girlfriend back. Tim, too, thinks he knows what's best for Miley and Faye, but he is trying to make up for his early abandonment of his daughter. In a poignant scene, Joe Duttine shows that he can do much more than comedy, as he sadly asks: "Why should a lousy dad get to be a granddad?"

The family Brown-Dobbs celebrate Ruby's third birthday with a cake and Fiz singing down the phone. At the hospital, I was pleased to see the paediatric nurse from yesterday in the background a.k.a. my Mancunian mate Marcy, who has previously been seen as an extra supping tea in Roy's Rolls.

Finally, Jason is not interested in the latest Street gossip (which is not surprising since it came in a rather misinformed manner from Kirk, who thinks it's all about a pepperoni pizza), and makes it clear that his priority is getting revenge on Callum, even if it makes his mum "unproud".

Jane Danson: "I'd love the Battersbys to call in for a visit"

Jane Danson, who plays Coronation Street's Leanne, was interviewed on ITV's Lorraine this morning.

She talked about her current storyline on Corrie where Simon is abusing Leanne. Then there are some great, very old, clips of Leanne on the Street shown.

Jane also talked about wanting the rest of the Battersby clan back on the Street too.  It's not the first time she's called for Leanne's sister Toyah to return to the Street, and this fan would love that to happen.

Leanne's mum Janice would be welcome back too I'd imagine in the form of Vicky Entwistle, although ITV recently confirmed there are no plans for the return of Les Battersby.
