.

Art mirrored life for the cast of Coronation Street this year when they said goodbye to of Deirdre Barlow mere months after the death of actress Anne Kirkbride. As was only fitting, it was left to her screen partner William Roache as Ken Barlow to pay tribute at the funeral – and reduce the nation to tears in the process.

You can watch the scene here.

Words from Weatherfield

Deirdre: A  Life on Coronation Street has been hailed as a "must-have stocking filler for fans" and as a Christmas bestseller too.

This official ITV book is an affectionate tribute to one of the most recognised and loved characters on television. Looking back at her three husbands, four weddings and countless pairs of specs, it features exclusive photographs as well as a look at Deirdre’s four decades on Britain’s most famous street.

The book is now in the WHSmith top Christmas picks of biographies and autobiographies. Deirdre, pictured above from the WHSmith website, is in splendid company with Paul O'Grady and Bruce Forsyth,

And the book has been featured on Love Reading UK where they say it's "A story told with love, laughter and drama".

Deirdre: A Life on Coronation Street is available in all good book shops and online.

Deirdre Barlow named The Guardian's fashion muse

The Guardian today have an article entitled "The top 20 autumn fashion trends you need to know about".  Well, all I know is I'll be slapping on a cardi when it gets chilly, but if you're a fashionista then you might like to read it so you know what to wear.

Listed as a muse for autumn fashion is our own, much missed Deirdre Barlow.

Here's what they say about here: "The fashion industry has decreed that Wes Anderson’s most stylish character, Margot Tenenbaum, is this season’s muse; her shabby fur coats and grubby eyeliner exactly what the industry wants to achieve right now. We don’t disagree, but we think the much-missed Deirdre Barlow is an even more apt inspiration: she did oversized glasses and prim blouses on a 1970s north-of-England budget while Anderson was still in short trousers."

The new ITV Corrie book Deirdre: A Life on Coronation Street will be published next month. You can pre-order it here.
